Each year, Nature and Culture International travels to Ecuador. Our North American Office coordinates the trip with our Ecuadorian offices. It gives friends of Nature and Culture an opportunity to see conservation work first hand.
Arrive in Quito, Ecuador.
Fly to Loja and journey to NCI’s San Francisco Science Station.
Take a tour of the Station grounds, meet researchers, and hike the surrounding cloud forest. The afternoon will be spent touring Podocarpus National Park and observing hummingbirds in Copalinga.
Depart to visit the Jamboé reserve to see NCI’s achiote project.
Travel to the Maycú Reserve and visit traditional Shuar gardens. In the afternoon, a river tour will be given by Shuar guide, Amable Tukupia. We will then visit the Waterfall of the Gods and learn about Shuar traditions.
Travel to Loja.
Visit a traditional weaving workshop in Saraguro and learn about Saraguro rituals. We then travel to Cuenca.
We will spend the morning in Cajas National Park. The afternoon will be spent exploring Cuenca. We will then take our flight back to Quito.
Travel from Quito back to the United States.
