EcoFair
| Showcases of scientific
projects on a local and regional level |
The
EcoFair is an annual event where the EcoClubs of the entire Loja
province present scientific projects that deal with the appropriate
use of natural resources and other environmental topics of local
and global relevancy. They also show the public their ideas and
projects of environmental development designed to better the ecological
situation of their city. This event is sponsored by the Pan-American
Health Organization and the National Foundation of EcoClubs of Ecuador.
So far, three EcoFairs have taken place with the
participation of over 1,200 students from both elementary and high
schools in the province of Loja.
Also during the last EcoFair, ten institutions
of higher education presented information to the public on the students’
academic options in Loja.
Binational Science & Technology Fairs
The Binational Science & Technology Fairs
are meetings where high school students from Ecuador and Peru share
their experiences
in the planning and execution of scientific research projects regarding
the environmental aspects of their city and country. These meetings
have been fundamental to generate an atmosphere of companionship
and association amongst the students of both countries, once divided
by border conflicts. The venue for the fair rotates, and every year
hundreds of students head to a new city for several days taking
advantage of both the academic experience and the opportunity to
get to know a new place and culture, hence broadening their vision
of the world. So far there have been seven bi-national expositions
(Loja, Machala, Saraguro and Zamora, in Ecuador; Chachapoyas, Cajamarca,
and Tumbes in Peru), with the participation of thousands students
from 120 high schools.
