Colombian Watersheds

Project Summary

The citizens of many rural Andean municipalities in Colombia do not have access to clean, treated drinking water, while their vital watersheds are cleared of forest and prone to increasingly prolonged droughts and then flooding. The ability of poor rural communities to maintain their most crucial resource – WATER – will challenge their economic and physical well-being and directly reflects on the state of their environment.

NCI, in conjunction with World Land Trust-US, is responding to these challenges through the protection of critical watersheds that preserve the most endangered species while ensuring poor rural communities in Colombia receive a clean and constant water supply. We are specifically targeting municipalities with unprotected or partially protected watersheds that are recognized by the Alliance for Zero Extinction as the sole site for the most critically endangered flora and fauna on earth.

Today, you can help further these efforts by making a donation designated to Colombian Watersheds.
